A little bit about Chipman Hill

The folks that follow us on social media have inquiring minds! They have often asked where the name Chipman Hill originated, and so here’s the scoop. Daniel Chipman, for whom the hill was named, was a United States Representative from Vermont and a Professor of Law at Middlebury College in the early 1800’s. The hill itself is the most prominent point overlooking the town and part of the well-traveled Trail Around Middlebury traverses its slopes. Those in their sixties and beyond remember the ski jump which was popular in the first half of the 1900’s and now only skeletal parts remain. The pinnacle is now home to the cell tower that serves the residents of the surrounding area. It is worth the hike up to enjoy the magnificent views of our county and beyond, just as it is worth the fee to join Chipman Hill Property Services!
